KPL 632 V8 Engine

KPL's new 6.32 cubic inch, 1/4 scale, fully operational V8 engine. It features a pressurized oiling system, water cooling, spark ignition, and runs on regular pump gas just like a full scale engine.

The entire engine was designed in 3D CAD and then each component is CNC machined.  The block, rods, pistons, heads, valve covers, intake, carburetor, timing cover, water pump, & bellhousing are all machined from billet 6061 aluminum. It has a one piece billet 4340 crankshaft that is fully cross drilled to deliver oil to the rod and main journals. The cam is also machined from billet 4340 and then finish ground for a 108 degree lobe separation, with .150" lift, and 240 degrees of duration. The engine features split main & rod bearings just like a full scale engine.

The connecting rods are machined from billet 6061 aluminum and are drilled for oil lubrication up to the wrist pins. The pistons are a flat top design with angled valve relief. They have three cast iron rings per piston, one square edge  & one tapered compression ring and a single taper faced oil scraper ring that channels excess oil through oil return holes that are cross drilled through the pistons.

The valve train consists of solid tie-bar lifters with offset adjustable roller tip rocker arms. The intake and exhaust valves are made from 17-4 stainless steel. They have bronze guides, seals, springs, and taper keepers just like a full scale engine. The fuel system is made up of a two stage belt driven fuel pump that feeds & returns fuel to and from a custom built 4 barrel carburetor that functions like a full scale unit. It has a progressive throttle linkage that allows the engine to run on the front two barrels until around 1/2 throttle; then the rear two barrels mechanically open as the throttle is opened fully. The lower intake manifold is fully machined from one piece of billet aluminum with a race inspired air gap design, the upper intake cover plate incorporates vacuum ports for the PCV system to remove excess crankcase pressure. An optional roots-style supercharger with duel carbs is also available at an additional cost.

The cooling system consists of a belt driven water pump with a billet impellor that pumps coolant through the engine block around each of the cast iron cylinder sleeves. Then it flows up through the heads, and out through the front upper coolant hose. The engine has a wet sump oil pan with an internal oil pump that delivers pressurized oil to the main bearings, cam bearings, rod bearings, wrist pins, lifters, and rocker arms. It has a screw on scale oil filter with replaceable paper element. The ignition system uses a crank trigger for timing and a scale distributor to carry the spark energy from the CDI ignition to each of the scale 1/4-32 spark plugs. The exhaust flows through a set of scale long tube stainless steel headers made with mandrel bent tubes and die formed stainless collectors. It has a side mounted gear reduced brushless electric motor to start the engine. Inside the scale bellhousing is the flex plate, flywheel, and a centrifugal clutch connected to an output shaft that runs through the transmission case. A fully functioning 2-speed transmission with reverse is available at an additional cost.
